Five Honored with Belk College Alumni Awards

As part of UNC Charlotte’s Homecoming celebrations, the Belk College of Business honored five alumni and friends for their accomplishments, service and dedication to the college during its first Alumni Awards presentation, Thursday, Oct. 13.

"The Belk College is proud to honor five superior individuals this year during UNC Charlotte Homecoming. The award winners support the Belk College as volunteers, advocates and donors, while serving as leaders in the business community. All of our awardees have achieved so much, both personally and professionally in their lives. They are recognized leaders among our strong and growing Belk College network of more than 28,000 alumni in Charlotte and throughout the world," said Belk College of Business Dean Steven Ott.

Knight Foundation Grant Bolsters 'City Walks' Project

The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute and its PlanCharlotte.org web publication have received a $15,000 grant from the Knight Foundation to continue their work as citywide organizers of a series of Charlotte neighborhood "City Walks" each May.

The walks are inspired by the work of urban observer and writer Jane Jacobs and encourage people to learn their city by exploring it on foot and observing it up close. They are part of an international Jane’s Walk movement that has helped neighborhood leaders and others organize walks throughout the world.

PlanCharlotte.org began the Charlotte walks in 2012 with one walk. By 2016 – aided by previous Knight Foundation grants – there were 21 City Walks, including two on bicycles, in neighborhoods such as NoDa, Dilworth, South End, Revolution Park, Enderly Park, Historic West End and Uptown.
