Dance Marathon Continues Tradition of Support

For the third consecutive year, UNC Charlotte students danced the night away to raise funds for the Levine Children’s Hospital.

The 12-hour Charlotte Dance Marathon, held Nov. 7 - 8, generated $49,049.73 in donations for the hospital. A student-led initiative, Charlotte Dance Marathon is a legacy project of the Levine Scholars Program. It was created in 2013 under the name 49er Dance Mine. The event featured a variety of activities, dancing and other entertainment. The marathon is the finale to a sustained fundraising effort involving a number of student organizations.

Organizers noted this third annual event was an effort to continue a tradition of community engagement in which University students raise funds for and generate awareness of the Levine Children’s Hospital.

Sealed Air Corp. to Use PORTAL for R&D

An agreement with Sealed Air Corp. to lease temporary research and development space at the PORTAL building advances UNC Charlotte’s standing as North Carolina’s urban research institution, University officials say. It also is a tangible illustration of the University’s commitment to foster partnerships with private industry.

On Nov. 16, the University and the company announced the partnership, which calls for the University to house the company’s research and development personnel for 18 months or longer. The arrangement provides temporary work space for the company’s researchers while a permanent facility is being built in Charlotte.

Best known as the maker of Bubble Wrap, Sealed Air has been around since 1960. The company also makes food packaging, packing foam, medical packaging and other products. In 2014, the company generated revenue of approximately $7.8 billion. Sealed Air has approximately 24,000 employees who serve customers in 175 countries.
