One-on-one Writing Tutorials
Students can make appointments for 50-minute sessions
by phone or in person with the WRC. Consultants work with
students on any part of the writing process including
planning, drafting, focusing, organizing, revising, or
editing. We offer help with papers from all disciplines.
It is possible to sign up beginning Wednesday at 12:00
noon for an appointment the following week.
Student Referral Program
This program is designed for students who have difficulty
producing writing that meets academic standards. Faculty
can place students on referral to receive tutoring each
week from the same tutor, for as long as necessary during
the semester. The Student Referral
Form is available online.
Classroom Presentations
On request, consultants come into
the classroom to present 50-minute workshops to students.
Workshops on APA Documentation, MLA Documentation, Revision,
Giving Effective Oral Presentations, and Writing Research
Papers with a humanities, social science or hard science
focus are available. To request a workshop, use the Workshop
Request Form available online.
Library Assistance
Consultants are available by appointment to take students
to the library to teach effective research methods and
to explore research materials. Students may sign up for
a library appointment in the WRC on the tutoring schedule
form.
Revision Peer-Writing Groups

to organize and assist with revision peer-writing groups.

Grammar Computer CDs
Self-paced grammar programs that teach students the structure
and rules of the English language are available on a walk-in
basis in the WRC.
Print Library
The Writing Resources Center houses two libraries:
- The Janet L. Smith Collection consists of professional
journal articles (photocopied) and published books
of writing pedagogy and theory. All materials are
available to Teacher-Consultants of the UNC Charlotte
Writing Project and to UNC Charlotte faculty and students.
Arranged alphabetically by author, books can be read
on-site or checked out. Articles, housed in lateral
file cabinets (also arranged alphabetically by author),
can be read on-site or photocopied.
- The WRC Library has books specific to student writing
concerns, such as resumes, writing in the disciplines,
writing about literature, technical writing, and grammar.
Students may use these books within the center during
operational hours.
Video Library
Materials on various aspects of writing and grammar are
available on tape. Students or faculty may watch the tapes
in the center or sign them out for use elsewhere.
