Welcome

This web-site is intended to serve as resource for stimulating discussion on future directions and future issues for international and comparative administration.  We ( Tjip Walker and Derick Brinkerhoff ) are coordinating this effort on behalf of the Section on International and Comparative Administration (SICA) of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).  We welcome you to participate in this dialogue.

This project is organized around the idea of "postcards". Postcards are brief essays that put forward an argument or express a point of view. Postcards are shorter and less formal than standard academic papers, but they are thoughtful and well-reasoned nonetheless.  We chose this approach because we want to stimulate a conversation among the broadest group possible: practitioners as well as scholars and those outside the United States as well as those within.

To get the discussion going, we have prepared an initial set of six postcards that are intended to give voice to some of the perspectives and issues confronting administrators and managers around the world.  These initial vignettes are intended to stimulate thinking and provoke responses.

Several individuals have already been sufficiently provoked to submit  postcards of their own.  These contributions have been posted here.  In addition, a web-based conference on these topics has recently been established.  Please check there for further contributions.  Finally, this site also contains links to other Internet pages that raise issues that can be expected to influence public administration in the years to come.

We hope you will add your voice to the discussion.  If you wish to contribute a postcard of your own, follow this link.
