Spotlight: Week of Welcome 2013

Week of Welcome (WOW) 2013 is an opportunity for the whole campus to celebrate the start of a new academic year. Started in 1998, WOW has grown into a free, 10-day event that highlights the many great resources and organizations that UNC Charlotte has to offer.

Offices within the divisions of Students Affairs and Academic Affairs reach out to the campus community to help educate incoming 49ers about available services. A variety of social opportunities are offered during WOW, too. This year’s events, from Friday, Aug. 16, through Sunday, Aug. 25, are all focused around the 2013 theme of “Welcome Home 49ers!”

While all WOW events are open to members of the campus community, we are particularly interested in seeing faculty, staff and their families at the 49er New Year. This event will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Sunday, Aug. 18, at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Other WOW events include RecFest; the CAB Back to School Block Party; Comedy Show; group fitness samplers; short kickoff programs with tips for academic success; and the Greek Carnival.

To help with WOW 2013, dozens of student volunteers, known as WOW Leaders, and several student mentors, known as team leaders, were selected through an application and interview process.

WOW Leaders will provide assistance throughout the week to the individual events as well as help welcome new students, faculty and staff to the campus. These students are strong UNC Charlotte leaders who are excited about the opportunity to give back to the campus community.
