One of UNC Charlotte’s most prolific and celebrated poets will take listeners on a compelling journey on Tuesday, March 26 at UNC Charlotte’s Atkins Library.
Tanure Ojaide, a native of Nigeria and the author of The Beauty I Have Seen, will present the final talk of the 2012-2013 Personally Speaking series, sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Atkins Library. The discussion is free and open to the public, and will be held in Dale Halton Reading Room at 6:30 PM.
In the book and his talk, Ojaide turns to his life’s experiences to create phases of the poetic journey, ranging from the poet - or minstrel - as a public figure, a traveler and observer of humanity, to one grounded in the landscape and fate of his native land. His voice is at once passionate and restrained, relaxed and poignant, blending African oral traditions with modern techniques.
In its third season in 2012-2013, the Personally Speaking (P.S.) lecture series further connects the community with UNC Charlotte College of Liberal Arts & Sciences faculty and their work.
The setting for each event is casual, with the author presenting and then engaging in a discussion with attendees. A reception and book signing follow. Reservations are requested via email or by calling 704-687-0085.
