Niner Nation spirit will be on display during the 49ers 2012 Homecoming Week, a celebration of events and festivities leading up to the men’s basketball game against the University of Rhode Island Rams at 2:00 PM, Feb. 11, in Halton Arena.
The Feb. 11 Homecoming celebration, held in conjunction with Family Day, kicks off with the Chancellor’s Breakfast in the Student Union at 9:00 AM. Festivities move into high gear with the annual Homecoming Parade at 10:30 AM; it begins in Parking Lot 6 and ends near the Student Union. Prior to the big game, there will be a tailgate event in Parking Lot 19.
"We have lots of activities planned for students and the campus community to continue
UNC Charlotte’s Homecoming traditions," said Gus Burkett, associate director of student activities for programming. "Between the parade and tailgate, there will be comedy and student performances and athletics and social events – Niner Nation should be ready for a good time."
– Gus Burkett, Associate Director of Student Activities for Programming
Leading up to the basketball contest, students will have the opportunity to vote for this year’s Homecoming Court, and student teams will vie for the Homecoming Cup by demonstrating their school spirit. For faculty and staff members, they will have the opportunity to get fired up at the annual Staff Council Chili Cook-off or display their spirit with the annual office decorating contest.
Beyond the games and celebration, Homecoming Week offers the chance for the Niner Nation to support the community. The seventh annual Homecoming Blood Drive will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, and on Friday, Feb. 10, there will be Homecoming "Day of Service" Project to support James Martin Middle School and the Ronald McDonald House. Volunteers can help clean and interact with families at Ronald McDonald House, and at Martin Middle School, they can paint, build a garden, assist teachers or speak to students in classrooms.
