Healthcare is among the fastest growing fields in North Carolina. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that more than 3.2 million jobs in healthcare-related fields will be created from 2008 to 2018.
To help citizens of the Charlotte region stake their claim on these jobs, UNC Charlotte Extended Academic programs, as part of The Competitive Workforce Alliance – Allied Health Regional Skills Partnership, will co-host an Allied Health Career Showcase at Carolinas College of Health Sciences (located at 1200 Blythe Blvd. in Charlotte), Thursday, April 7, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.
The showcase will provide community members an opportunity to explore possibilities for careers in allied health occupations, which will continue to increase as the population ages and the pressure to manage healthcare costs grows. Positions in allied health fields include physical therapy assistants, surgical technologists, radiologic technologists, medical assistants, medical coders, dental assistants and respiratory therapists.
Attendees will be able to view demonstrations; talk to individuals working in the field; and explore options for training and education, financial support, and career development.
The mission of the Allied Health Regional Skills Partnership is “to assure that the region has the allied health resources necessary to meet the healthcare needs of its citizens.” The partnership is comprised of employers; education, workforce development and economic development professionals; and training providers that meet regularly to create strategies and programs that will continually assess, prioritize and respond to the workforce training needs of employers in the allied health sector.
