Bob Dylan hasn’t performed his music on UNC Charlotte’s campus before, but he might have been a participant in an impromptu softball game on one of the University’s recreational fields. Legend has it, the iconic singer-songwriter and musician once joined members of his band and crew on campus to unwind before a performance at a nearby concert pavilion.
This time Dylan will be visiting campus to do what he does best — perform what is universally regarded as some of the most popular and influential music ever recorded. In a career spanning five decades, Dylan has garnered numerous awards and was included in Time magazine’s “Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century.”
As part of his tour of universities in the Southeast and Midwest, Dylan and His Band will appear live and in concert at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center’s Halton Arena on campus.
Halton Arena has become a popular venue for concerts in the Charlotte region. Past performers, including Counting Crows, B.B. King, Jessica Simpson and Muse, have drawn large crowds at the 9,000-plus seat arena.
But even before Halton Arena, UNC Charlotte enjoyed a tradition of hosting great acts. Students previously gathered for outdoor concerts in “old Field 8,” where the Student Union and its conjoined parking deck now stand.
Tickets for Bob Dylan and His Band, an all-ages show, are available online at Ticketmaster and AEG Live, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or at any Ticketmaster outlet. Non-student tickets also are available through the campus ticket office for $45, plus a nominal service fee.
Tickets for currently enrolled UNC Charlotte students are available at the Halton Arena Ticket Office. Student tickets are $25 through the campus ticket office with no service fees. Student ID must be presented with the ticket for admission to the concert.
All seats are reserved. This concert is produced by AEG Live.
