Even semester finals can’t break the pioneering spirit and determination of UNC Charlotte students. A first for some and a gratifying last for others, the 49ers’ academic D-Day begins this week. More than 25,000 students are studying for exams, with subjects ranging from software engineering to economics, biotechnology to art history, and the list continues.
J. Murrey Atkins Library is open 24/7 during finals, offering many exhausted, blurry-eyed patrons a place to burn the midnight oil, grab a snack, and if lucky, take a coveted one or two hour snooze.
A “relaxation room” is also being offered on the library’s main floor from Dec. 8 to the morning of
Dec. 12. This room will offer hot chocolate, comfortable chairs, and a microwave, along with coloring books, mazes and playing cards aimed to soothe weary bodies and brains. Students can even mail pre-stamped postcards provided by the library, reassuring family and friends they’ll soon be home for the holidays.
Public health major Ashley Gothard says, “I’ll be worn out, especially when it’s 3:00 AM in [the library], but at least I won’t be alone… it’ll be packed.”
Good luck, 49ers!!
