Project Co-Director

Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the North Carolina Transition Preparation Program, Dr. Wood teaches courses in special education and supported employment including transition from school to adult life, behavior management, secondary methods and materials, community resources, working with families, supported employment methods, consultation and collaboration, and others. Prior to joining the faculty at UNCC, Dr. Wood was Executive Director/Co-Founder of the Association for Persons in Supported Employment (APSE). In her role as executive director of APSE, Dr. Wood was principal investigator of a national research and training project funded by the Social Security Administration, and a statewide project funded by the Virginia Developmental Disabilities Council to develop a consumer advocacy movement to improve and expand supported employment services. Prior to her work at APSE, Dr. Wood worked at the Virginia Commonwealth University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center in Richmond, VA for over 8 years. At the RRTC, she was project coordinator for several demonstration projects and was Director of Supported Employment Services for the Center. She has published and presented extensively and nationally on supported employment, choice, transition from school to adult life, and related topics over the past 15 years.
