Self Determination Synthesis Project
Self Determination Project

The Self-Determination Synthesis Project began in October 1998 with five objectives:

  1. To develop hypotheses with input from key stakeholders to focus the project and enhance the usability and validity of the synthesis activities and outcomes;
  2. To review, analyze, and evaluate the literature on SD/SA (Self-Determination/ Self-Advocacy)  to identify trends, areas of agreement and disagreement, unanswered questions, and gaps in the knowledge base;
  3. To examine the SD/SA practices being implemented, the environments in which SD/SA is flourishing, and the outcomes being achieved;
  4. To communicate and develop an array of successful products and procedures for dissemination through technical assistance and information dissemination networks; and
  5. To evaluate the implementation and impact of the SD Synthesis Project on speeding up the flow from theory to practice.

This web site currently contains a list of self-determination resources, including research references, curricula, web links, and other materials.  Eventually, ideas for teaching self-determination and other features will be added.  We are currently seeking input from self-advocates, consumers, and professionals about the range of literature, products, and practices implemented. Please email David Test (dwtest@email.uncc.edu), Project Coordinator, with your suggestions.
