Gary Kunkle:

Gary Kunkle has 18 years experience as a consultant to economic development agencies and private corporations, focused on issues related to international trade and investment. He has served dozens of government clients and has advised more than 1000 companies on foreign market expansion – working in more than 30 countries world-wide.

Public sector work experience:

For public-sector clients, his scope of work includes strategic planning, program evaluation, export promotion, and investment attraction. Notable clients have included:

  • U.S. Department of Commerce in support of the Taba Round of the Middle-East Peace Process;
  • US Trade Development Agency on privatization of the Polish National Telecom (TPSA);
  • The State of Pennsylvania for a 10-year evaluation of their 23 state-wide economic development programs;
  • Florida Chamber for a 10-year strategic plan in support of the newly privatized Enterprise Florida;
  • State of Maryland for a 4-year world-wide marketing plan for investment attraction.

International work experience:

For seven years prior to joining the Ph.D. Public Policy at UNCC, Gary operated a private consulting service from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His main client was the State of Maryland for whom he led the export promotion and investment attraction efforts for Europe. During this time, he also provided targeted investment attraction services for Montgomery County, Maryland focused on biotechnology; as well as conducting investment recruitment in North America for the City of Rotterdam.

Prior to moving to Europe in 1997, Gary held the position of Senior Manager at KPMG Peat Marwick's Public Services Practice in Washington, D.C.; before that he worked as Manager with KPMG's International Trade and Investment Services Group.

Education:

Gary has a B.A. in Political Science from Texas A&M University (1985), and an M.A. in International Management (1988) and an M.B.A. (1989) from University of Texas at Dallas.
