Awards and other outstanding academic achievements:

 

Olga Smirnova received first prize in graduate category in the Spring 2004 Student Writing Competition on the theme of "Crossing Borders".

Galen Smith received the 2003 Best Student Paper Award from the UNCC Health Services Research Academy on March 25, 2004 for his submission titled, "The Use of Reference Drug Pricing as a Possible Strategy to Contain U.S.
Prescription Drug Expenditures." This was the second consecutive year that Galen won this award.

Junfeng Wang: award 'MPA student of 2003' at Pembroke University in May, 2003.

Yoshiko Takahashi: the first place in the World Society of Victimology Paper Competition with the paper 'Balancing Approach: The use of apology in Japanese society' on April 22nd, 2003.

Galen Smith: the Health Services Research Academy Student Paper award on April 18th, 2003 for his paper "The Use of Social Science Variables to Describe the Utilization of Prozac (fluoxetine)"

Bobbie J. Fields: UNC Charlotte Health Services Research Academy Student Paper Award 2001 "Quality of Care in the Long-Term Care Setting:

Bobbie Fields Homeless Shelter Innovation Grant
Due to results of a student evaluation of the Uptown Men's Shelter in Spring of 2003, she initiated a proposal for an Innovation Grant through CPCC. The grant funds were needed to establish a GED/ABLE program at the Uptown Men's Shelter and the need for classes was identified through the public policy evaluation conducted by Dr. Godwin's Public Policy Process class of Spring 2003. The proposal was funded and classes were implemented in the shelter in the Spring of 2004.

 

Bobbie Fields Involved in a project in collaboration with the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute to develop a civic index outlining public policy issues and proposals to be addressed in the next 10 years for Richmond County in Rockingham, NC. The project involves application of public policy analysis and an evaluation of the recommendations proposed by the town's committee members.
