The University Transition Opportunities Program (UTOP) welcomed its eighteenth class. This year, 46 students participated in this academic enrichment and personal growth summer bridge experience including seven PRODUCE (students in science, math, and engineering) and six pre-business scholars. These regularly admitted entering freshmen enrolled in three courses including English Composition, Supplemental English and Freshmen Seminar, and / or Mathematics. Concurrent with regular course work, the UTOP students produced a magazine which contains their creative efforts in writing and artistic design, and video of the UTOP experience. The magazine and video were spearheaded by Julie Townsend and Richard LeAIMSter.

Because the program emphasizes co-curricular or holistic learning, the students expressed great appreciation for the field trip to Carowinds.

Students indicated how grateful they were for the UTOP experience; some are already determined to be Counselors of next year. An evaluation of the program is underway which should facilitate the planning and implementation of an even better program next year.
