joel avrin is a professor and coordinator of the graduate program in the Mathematics Department at
UNC Charlotte. He organizes poetry readings at several local venues, including a quarterly series at the Hodges-Taylor Gallery and a monthly
series at the Moon Room in conjunction with the Sanskrit staff. The local literary community owes thanks to the Sanskrit staff for selecting
Joel as a juror two years in a row, thus preventing him from submitting to the magazine. |
matt cashion , a '91 graduate of UNC Charlotte, is in his second year as an instructor of Fiction
Writing. He completed his MFA at the University of Oregon, has published shorties in numberous literary magazines across the country and is currently
finishing a novel, the working title of which is, The Accidental Advocate of Illiteracy. In addition to judging Sanskrit submissions, he has been
a taste-tester for various experimental products formerly available at Piggly-Wiggly supermarkets. |
christopher davis is an associate professor of creative writing at UNC Charlotte. His open workshop
classroom style is popular with students and has encouraged many a Sanskrit contributor. His works include The Tyrant of the Past and the
Slave of the Future and his newly published collection entitled The Patriot. |
lucinda grey teaches creative writing at UNC Charlotte where she edited The Southern Poetry
Review for several years. In 1992 she won the NC Arts Council's writer's residency in southern France. Interational experiences in Mexico,
Spain and France have strongly influenced Grey's latest work. Her book, Ribbon Around a Bomb, won the Quentin R. Howard Poetry Prize and was
published in 1994. These are poems in the persona of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. She returned to teach at the University of Limoges in 1995. |
lyn holt is co-owner/manager of The Harris Holt Gallery, Charlotte. She manages husband Harris's
watercolor career, studied with art associations, and has served as Visual Arts Director for SpringFest, Inc. She has been arts consultant to
many art festivals and is art placement consultant to Bank of America. |
mary lou sussman is the owner and director of the Blue Pony Gallery and Press, located in Charlotte's
NoDa arts district. Educated in painting and traditional ecition printmaking at the University of Michigan in the 60's, she began focusing on
monoprints and monotypes in the 70's with her work at the New Jersey Center for the Visual Arts and Pratt Institute. There she studied with Master
Printer Anthony Kirk, now with Tyler Graphics. After relocating to Charlotte in 1990, she taught the Monoprinting Class at Spirit Square for several
years, before transferring her classes to her own printmaking stuido which she opened in 1997 in a space adjoining her gallery. |
michael swisher practices art and teaches design. An active painter, he participated in over 60 exhibitions
throughout the country and is well represented in both public and private collections. He is an associate professor at UNC Charlotte's College of
Architecture and is also the author of numerous reviews and several papers on the subject of aesthetic philosophy. |
julie townsend has worked in the English department at UNC Charlotte for seven years. She is an editor of
The Southern Poetry Review, and currently has a screenplay under consideration. |
