I took pictures of the anoles on this page in my yard (in North Carolina).

Lizards & Skinks (more links are below)

Anole diary This lizard webpage resulted from my attempt (successful) to identify the little green lizards who insist on sharing my home with me and my dogs. My anole story is getting rather long, so I have moved it to a separate page. New: Questions and Answers - but visit anole diary first.

Anole on the begonia
This anole is hanging out on the begonias.
The picture is actually about twice as big as the actual lizard size.

Here are some useful (or fun) lizard links: Right now there are not a whole lot of links - many of the old ones stopped working - I am looking for more and will update the page as soon as I can.

Comprehensive:

The EMBL Reptile Database (European Molecular Biology Laboratory)
"This database is intended to provide information on the classification of all living reptiles by listing all species and their pertinent higher taxa....The database explicitely covers all living snakes, lizards, amphisbaenians and crocodiles." Very complete.

Lizards: from the Discovery Chanel - a live expedition from the American Museum of Natural History. You can even complete a lizard crossword puzzle.

Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History (home), Anole information - definitely more scientific than my observations.

Zach's Lizard Land - beautiful pictures.

Care:

Classroom care for Anoles - Comment. Classroom pets are frequent victims of neglect when people forget to take them home over weekends or holidays. So if you decide to do this, remember, anoles and other pets need to eat and have a proper environment seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Green Anole Care in Captivity (Keeping wild anoles is never recommended. This is for pets purchased from breeders)

Greg & Leann's Leaping Lizards DayGecko Page information and care sheets.

Green Anole Care Sheet - from Tad P Frog's [very informative] home page

Ontario Herpetological Society

Ontario Herpetological Society Care Sheets

Care Sheet for Nocturnal Lizards

Herp Index - comprehensive

For delight:

Pictures of Lizards - Links to photographs, and websites. The picture on this page came from here.

The Green Dude - story of one family's experience with an iguana

Henry Lizardlover.com - awesome photographs, care information - well just take the time to visit.

Skinks

Herp Hacienda Library: Links to articles on a variety of lizards, skinks, snakes

Lizards of Missouri : Produced by the state of Missouri. Outstanding! If you only have time for one webpage on skinks and lizards, go here.  Excellent photographs illustrate this informative and well designed page. There are many more sections on wildlife and the environment on the Missouri Department of Conservation website.

Georgia Wildlife Federation.

Frogs

The Froggy Page(s) - all things frog, everything, songs, stories, images, information

Comprehensive / Turtles

Important (Turtles Need Your Help):
It is an active time for turtles. Watch for them on the road. If it is safe for you to stop, you can carry them on across - go in the same direction they were heading. Get them several feet awayfrom road.

I tried to save one that had been run over last year, but he didn't make it. I did find out that we have a local vet who will help with injured turtles.

Scientific Amphibian - turtle info here, as well as lots of other information

Herptological Conservation includes Amphibians and Reptiles of North Carolina - This [outstanding] web site was developed as a class project by students in the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Class at Davidson College during the Spring of 1999. Excellent pictures, discussion of habitat, range. etc. Includes all known species in North Carolina.
