Participation in
Politics
Although
faculty members and EPA staff as private citizens are free to engage in
political activities, the board of governors recognizes that certain types of
activities may be incompatible with the general responsibilities of public
employment or with the particular responsibilities of University employment. To
ensure that inappropriate conflicts are avoided, that Board has enacted a
written policy establishing standards and procedures in this area. The official
University policy, Policy Statement #15, “Political Activities of Faculty and
Staff Exempt from the State Personnel Act,” can be found at www.legal.uncc.edu/policies/ps-15.html.
If you plan to run for any political office, contact your chairperson or
dean as far in advance as possible, so that the matter may be reviewed by the
appropriate body before you file as a candidate.
Participation in partisan politics by members of the UNC Charlotte community is neither encouraged nor discouraged. Faculty members working on political campaigns or issues are not to use campus mail or other services (printing, computer time, etc.) in doing so. Faculty members, in their capacity as citizens, and not in their employment capacity, may place campaign literature in the mailboxes of other faculty members without using the campus mail.
