Leaves
of Absence
UNC Charlotte has no regular program of
sabbatical leaves for faculty members. However, educational leaves of absence
may be granted on an individual basis. The process of obtaining such a leave
begins when a faculty member submits a request to the department chairperson or
dean at least one semester before the leave period is to begin. An educational
leave of absence may be granted with or without pay. Parents of newborn or newly
adopted children may request personal leave with or without pay, depending on
the circumstances, for up to twelve weeks.
Non-educational leaves of absence are
granted without pay to accommodate personal or family needs of faculty members
or to enable participation in activities that will benefit the faculty member of
the UNC Charlotte community.
The decision whether to grant a leave of
absence depends upon the circumstances of each case. The official University
policy, Policy Statement #46, “Leaves of Absence for Members of the
Faculty,” can be found at www.legal.uncc.edu/policies/ps-46.html.
The official University policy for leaves of absence for EPA staff, Policy Statement #64, “Personnel Policies for Designated Employment Exempt from the State Personnel Act,” can be found at www.legal.uncc.edu/policies/ps-64.html.
