Evaluations
Faculty
Evaluation Criteria and Procedures
The Tenure Policies, Regulations, and
Procedures of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (www.uncc.edu/unccatty/tenurepol.html),
based on The Code of the Board of Governors of The University of North
Carolina (www.northcarolina.edu/content.php/legal/policymanual/contents.htm),
specifies that academic tenure shall be awarded only on the basis of
"demonstrated professional competence," "potential for future
contributions to the University," and "institutional needs and
resources." Faculty are evaluated annually in terms of their
accomplishments in the areas of teaching, scholarly activity, and service. Each
department and college within the University must have written guidelines and
criteria for faculty evaluation.
Procedures for reappointment, promotion, and the conferral of permanent tenure are specified in Section 4 of the Tenure Policies (www.uncc.edu/unccatty/tenurepol.html#IV). Each college must follow procedures consistent with those prescribed in the UNC Charlotte tenure document.
Tenured and
Tenure-Track Faculty Criteria and Procedures
The job performance of every tenured and
tenure-track faculty member will be evaluated each year. This evaluation will be
undertaken by each department chairperson under departmental procedures and
criteria. This evaluation process is a minimum requirement; it shall not
supplant more extensive departmental procedures.
The procedures, approved by the faculty
council, for the annual evaluation of tenured and tenure-track faculty can be
found in Section VI, Subsection B of the Academic Personnel Procedures
Handbook at
www.provost.uncc.edu/epa/handbook.htm.
Academic
Administrator Evaluation Procedures
The procedures, approved by the faculty
council, for the annual evaluation of academic administrators can be found in
Section VI, Subsection F of the Academic Personnel Procedures Handbook at
