Welcome to the Graduate School at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte!

Our Mission
The Graduate School’s role is to foster excellence in all dimensions of post baccalaureate studies and is the primary advocate for graduate education and for graduate students at the University. Graduate education functions to explore and advance the limits of knowledge and define the state of the art in an academic discipline. Our purpose is to serve society’s needs in specific technical and professional ways as well as the need for intellectual expansion. In accomplishing this mission, the Graduate School values integrity, collaboration, efficiency, innovation, and inclusiveness in all that it does.

Academic Programs
Established in 1985 with the appointment of the first dean, the Graduate School offers 18 doctoral and 62 master’s degree programs in a wide variety of fields and specialties ranging from architecture, biomedical engineering, computing, engineering, and health administration to history, teacher education, creative writing, business, nursing and social work.

Graduate students enrolled in the University come from nearly every state in the union. International students come from a variety of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America.

The Graduate School has nearly 700 members of the Regular Graduate Faculty teaching and mentoring graduate students.

The Dean of the Graduate School is Dr. Thomas Reynolds.

 

Independence Day Closings

UNC Charlotte and the Graduate School, will close at
3 p.m., Thursday, July 2, as part of the state-mandated furlough program. It also will close Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day, a federal and state holiday.
The University will resume normal operations on Monday, July 6.

University at record enrollment

The Graduate School welcomed a record 4,975 students to UNC Charlotte in the fall 2008 semester, over 2,000 of them new to the University. Overall, more than 23,300 students enrolled, the largest enrollment in the University's history. When the fall term began, UNC Charlotte ranked No. 9 in the new category of "Up-and-Coming Schools" in the latest ranking of America's colleges of universities by U.S. News & World Report.

ApplyYourself

Commonly referred to as “AY”, ApplyYourself is a prospect, application, recommendation, and enrollment system. The review of graduate applications is now totally electronic; paper applications are no longer referred via Campus Mail, so it is necessary that all faculty and staff attend training as soon as possible. Ras Gets Mentor Award for Devotion to Graduate-Student Success

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Feb. 16, 2009 – Dr. Zbigniew W. Ras, a full professor of computer science who has taught at UNC Charlotte since 1979, is the recipient of the 2009 Harshini V. de Silva Graduate Mentor Award. He was presented with the award at a reception on the evening of Feb. 16....more 


Graduate School Mourns Loss of Valued Staff Member Faye Jacques

Faye Jacques, a veteran UNC Charlotte employee of almost 40 years, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville.

During a long and productive tenure, Jacques worked in a number of University units including the Department of Religious Studies, the Development Office and the Graduate School. As executive assistant to the dean of the Graduate School, Jacques served during a period of rapid growth of graduate education on the campus. University administrators note, "her loyalty and dedication to the office was an inspiration to everyone." The Faye Jacques Memorial Fellowship has been created in her honor.
