UNC Charlotte ETD Project

WELCOME

Welcome to the Website for UNC Charlotte's Electronic Theses and Dissertation Project. An electronic thesis or dissertation (ETD) is an electronic version of your thesis or dissertation. In general, it is the same product as a paper thesis or dissertation, simply in electronic form. The ETD provides a technologically advanced medium for expressing your ideas.

As we come to rely upon technology in an ever-increasing manner, it seems natural that scholarly works would be affected. The Graduate School is committed to providing new capabilities to support the creativity and innovation of our scholars. To this end, we are in the beginning stages of making the electronic submission of dissertations available to all doctoral degree candidates.

In the spring of 2002, the ETD Committee established by the Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Thomas Reynolds, recommended that a pilot ETD program be established on the UNC Charlotte campus. The pilot program was delayed due to lack of a campus infrastructure to support electronic document submission.

In the spring and summer of 2004, the Graduate School, in collaboration with University Microfilms International (UMI)/ProQuest and the Atkins Library, developed a solution to the electronic submission issue. Thus, in the fall of 2004, UNC Charlotte began a pilot project giving doctoral students in all disciplines the option of submitting their dissertation in electronic form.

If you are a doctoral student at UNC Charlotte who is interested in submitting your dissertation in an electronic format, please access the links on the side of this page to acquire more information on how to get started on your ETD.

Special Promotion: Submit an ETD and Receive a Leather UNC Charlotte Portfolio

To encourage doctoral students to take advantage of the benefits of submitting a dissertation electronically, the Graduate School is giving a UNC Charlotte leather portfolio to each doctoral student who submits an ETD during the 2008-2009 academic year.
