Insurance Agents Endow Belk College Scholarship

The Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) has endowed a scholarship in the Belk College of Business.

The Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) has endowed a scholarship in the Belk College of Business.

Young Agents Chairman Leamon Clemmons Jr. and Vice Chairman Kenny Richardson presented a check for $54,515 to UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip Dubois and Belk College Dean Claude Lilly at a luncheon on March 8. The endowment will benefit students in the College’s undergraduate program for risk management and insurance.

“The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina have been very supportive of the Risk Management and Insurance program in the Belk College of Business,” said Lilly. “The IIANC has contributed more than $150,000 for student scholarships since 1997. In addition to their generous financial backing, IIANC members have provided valuable networking and internship opportunities for students and have hired a number of graduates of the Risk Management and Insurance program. The Belk College deeply appreciates the support of the IIANC and its agents.”

Belk College Director of Development Beth Fischer added that young donors serve as an inspiring example to current students, young alumni and donors of all ages.

“All of us in the Belk College are excited to work so closely with a strong group of young donors, like the IIANC Young Agents Committee,” Fischer said. “The IIANC members are obviously committed to creating opportunities, and they are laying the groundwork for those promising professionals in their own field. We are honored to partner with them for the enduring success of the program.”

IIANC President Bill Bingham, Vice President Cleve Folger and Secretary/Treasurer Neil Annas represented the IIANC Board of Directors at the luncheon. Members of the IIANC Young Agents Committee participated in the presentation. Bob Bird, IIANC chief executive officer, and Jovita Mask, IIANC vice president of administration and staff liaison for the Young Agents Committee, also were present.

A plaque in the Belk College of Business and in the IIANC offices in Cary, N.C., will recognize all contributions of $500 or more to the endowment, and efforts are ongoing to grow the fund. For information on contributing to the fund, please contact Belk College Director of Development Beth Fisher at (704) 687-1441 or e-mail enfische@email.uncc.edu.
