Verification Worksheet

To apply for need-based financial aid at UNC Charlotte all students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA can be completed online.  In addition to the FAFSA, certain situations require additional forms and/or documentation.  Those used most frequently are available below.

It is important to note that several of the forms require a distinction between “dependent” and “independent”.

The INDEPENDENT version of the form MUST be used by students who meet ANY ONE of the following conditions:

• Were born before January 1, 1982

(2006-07 FAFSA) OR before January 1, 1983 (2007-08 FAFSA)

• Are or will be enrolled in a graduate program during
  2006-07

(2006-07 FAFSA) OR 2007-08 (2007-08 FAFSA)

• Are married

• Have children who receive more than half of their support from the student

• Are an orphan or ward/dependent of the court (until age 18)

• Are a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces

Students who do NOT meet ONE of the above conditions MUST use the DEPENDENT version of the selected form.
