I came to UNC Charlotte in 1994. Prior to UNC Charlotte I spent 3 years as a Hall Director at Iowa State University and 2 1/2 years as a Television Reporter at the ABC Affiliate in Florence, SC.
I am a proud University of South Carolina (Columbia) Gamecock where I obtained a B.A in Journalism and Mass Communication. I worked for 2 1/2 years then went to graduate school at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and received an M.S. in Journalism and Mass Communication. While in Iowa I pursued an undergraduate goal and dream of becoming a Resident Assistant. I enjoyed it so much, that although I received an assistantship working at the commercial television at ISU, I eventually left television to work with students!
My hometown is Florence, SC. I love music, especially "old school". I enjoy concerts, the theatre, and the arts. I love to read, and I am also a writer. I am the advisor for the 49er Social & Ballroom Dance Club. I like all kinds of dance! I also enjoy entertaining friends at my house, sewing, crafts and rollerblading.
The things that bring me joy in my job would have to be working with students 1/1 in the capacity of mentor, teacher, advisor and friend. I also get a kick out of creating programs and/or presentations on topics that may help us have a better understanding of our lives, or topics that make us really "think". Another thing that's fun in my job is working with excited colleagues.
I like to challenge students to turn "I can'ts" into "I cans"-using their own strengths to build up any weaknesses. And if I can help them realize their hidden talents or help provide a showcase for obvious talents, I feel I have succeeded!
