UNC Charlotte

The Cone University Center was named for Dr. Bonnie E.Cone, who is recognized as the founder of the University. Dr. Cone was a teacher with the institution in 1946 when it was the Charlotte Center of UNC. She went on to serve as director and president of Charlotte College. In 1965, Charlotte College became The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Dr. Cone became its first Chancellor. Bonnie Cone was the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs until her retirement.  She passed away on March 8, 2003 at the age of 95.  Cone Center and Reese Building
This student oriented building houses McKnight Hall (an auditorium used for student meeting space or free movies), the Lucas Room (a banquet room), the After Hours Lounge (which features a stage where student bands put on free concerts), a cafeteria, Student Government Association, Student Media, University Program Board Offices, meeting rooms, lounges, and a variety of other student facilities.
