Venture Hiking and Adventure Trips Scheduled
Throughout this month, the Venture program is conducting a number of outdoor adventure trips open to the UNC Charlotte and greater communities. Participants can enjoy excursions that range from canoeing to hiking. Experience is not required, and instruction is provided to prepare for trip activities.
Venture trips are led by highly qualified staff members who not only recognize an exciting adventure but facilitate learning from the experience. "The outdoors is a perfect place to expand your comfort zone and grow as a person," said Brian Holcomb, assistant director for Venture trips. "We seek to provide opportunities to practice self-reliance, improve physical fitness, build community and develop skills that facilitate success in the backcountry and in life."
Art Professor's Work Celebrates McColl Anniversary
The McColl Center for Art + Innovation will celebrate its 15th anniversary with the presentation of "Arctic Utopia," a major exhibition of mixed media sculptures, videos and site-specific installations by Marek Ranis, UNC Charlotte assistant professor of art and 1999 McColl Center alumnus.
The exhibit opens with a reception from 6:00 - 9:00 PM, Friday, Sept. 19, and it will be displayed through Saturday, Nov. 22.
In his work, Ranis investigates how climate change influences humanity, addressing the complex social and political consequences of this dynamic transformation. "The phenomenon of global climate change fascinates me," said the art professor. "Because of its acuteness and enormity of scale, we seem not to comprehend it and refuse to acknowledge it."
