The Office of Waste Reduction & Recycling and the Facilities Management Grounds Department will organize a Campus-Wide Cleanup in conjunction with our Earth Day Festival. The Campus Cleanup project will take place from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9 and will be coordinated from three points on campus: the Belk Tower, the CHHS plaza (in front of the Student Union), and the Motorsports building at the CRI campus. We will also coordinate the second Spring Tree Planting from 10:00 AM - 12 noon on the same day.
The Charlotte Green Initiative and E.A.R.T.H. Club are organizing student volunteers to pick up trash and recyclables throughout the day.
UNC Charlotte will present "Ruined and Rebuilt Landscapes: Memories of the War in Bosnia," a series of lectures, movies, discussions with survivors and cultural gatherings, from March 17 through April 2.
The exhibition will feature paintings by British artist Laura Buxton of ruined buildings in Bosnia-Herzegovina, completed in 1994 and 1995 in the immediate aftermath of the war. Each painting is accompanied by additional information and photographs depicting the rebuilding of these sites, as well as the ongoing conflicts surrounding them.
Related programs will examine the personal and collective memories of the conflict and how it shaped people’s lives, ethnic relations, cultural practices and the built environment in the last two decades. The focus is on the destructiveness of war but also on survival and rebuilding. Click here for more information.
