Ten exemplary students were acknowledged during the annual Honors and Awards Program held Monday, April 14, in the Student Union. The ceremony recognized students’ outstanding achievements in academics, community service, and leadership.
Awards were granted to celebrate the students' commitment to the campus community, enriching the college experience for fellow students, and developing good citizens and stewards for the future. Additionally, students were recognized for athletic achievement, integrity, and mentoring other students.

Eight UNC Charlotte alumni from the William States Lee College of Engineering are collaborating on building the first new commercial nuclear reactors in the United States in the past 30 years. These former classmates include Kevin Departhy, George Gora, Chuck Jenkins, Justin Marsh, Gregg Nantz, Dustin Parks, Rebecca Parks and Weston Trimble.
The team is constructing Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 for Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company. CB&I and Westinghouse are building the new Westinghouse AP1000 Advanced Passive Light Water Reactors at the existing plant site near Waynesboro, Ga. CB&I is performing the engineering, procurement and construction for the project.
