UNC Charlotte’s Collegiate Recovery Community will be the beneficiary of the inaugural Charlotte Heroes in Recovery 6K Run/Walk scheduled for 8:00 AM, Saturday, June 21, at Reedy Creek Park.
According to its website, Heroes in Recovery is a movement ignited by Foundations Recovery Network and the widespread community to eliminate the social stigma that keeps individuals with addiction and mental health issues from seeking help.
"This race is the type of community event that draws attention to the important work that we do every day," stated Carol Rose, marketing specialist for the Collegiate Recovery Community. "We work hard to break down the cultural stereotypes and stigmas associated with addiction, and we want people to celebrate recovery and put the spotlight on healthy lifestyles."
The Charlotte Venture Challenge (CVC) will showcase 39 finalists selected from more than 100 startup competitors located throughout the Southeast and introduce these emerging companies to investors, corporate executives, and the business community, Thursday, May 1.
The 2014 Challenge has the largest number of entries than any other year and is poised to draw the most corporate community engagement to date. The competition winners will be decided by an investor vs. corporate customer showdown. Competition categories include consumer products and services, life sciences and biotechnology, IT & informatics, new energy and high tech, undergraduate student ventures and graduate student ventures teams. Finalists will present their businesses and answer questions from panels of investors and corporate executives and a winner will be chosen by each panel.
